Selfish islanders say no to wind farm
Plans to build one of Europe’s biggest wind farms on the Isle of Lewis are set to be turned down due to selfish and shortsighted protesters. Radio nan Gaidheal, has learned that Scottish Government ministers are “minded to refuse” the 181 turbine scheme. More than 5,000 letters of objection to the proposals were received by the Scottish Government. It is believed environmental concerns are behind the decision. An official announcement from the Scottish Government is expected in two to three weeks time.
My own opinion on this matter should by now be obvious: A bunch of selfish islanders want to protect their vista. Their ‘environmental concerns’, really are merely aesthetic concerns when it comes down to it; they just don’t want the inconvenience of looking at these turbines, so to hell with the long term benefits to the environment. Well in my view - at least these turbines can be dismantled at any point, and once dismantled the scenery of the place is returned to normal. So it’s going to be a big shame when, because of all these selfish gits, our grandchildren are looking at the great big glacier that’s swallowing up Scotland. What will our grand children be thinking as they are looking at the unstoppable cliffs of ice? Perhaps they will be thinking about the selfish ancestors who wouldn’t do anything about climate change and renewable energy because it would spoil their view! Then perhaps they would sadly turn away and walk down the long and lonely road to warmer climates south - forever abandoning their Scottish home to the unrelenting glacier.
The news was of course welcomed by local anti-wind farm campaigner Dinah Murray, who said the refusal would allow islanders’ lives to return to normal.
Meanwhile Angus Campbell, vice-convener of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, told the BBC that the decision was a “bitter blow for the Western Isles”. He added that: “An opportunity to help us revitalise our economy has been lost. The Comhairle will now engage with the Scottish Government to discuss their plans for how the economy of the Western Isles can be developed. They must make clear what their vision is for the islands. Are we to become an environmental museum? Is any development at all to be allowed in the Western Isles? Those who opposed this development must now come forward and outline their proposals for regenerating the economy of the Western Isles.”
So the question is, where does this leave renewable energy? Let us watch as selfish idiots everywhere play pass the parcel with renewable energy, because at the end of the day according to them - their temporary vista is more important than handing our children a clean and beautiful earth.
