Glasgow 1868
I have no idea where I got this pic. Presumably it is in the public domain (and if not then it jolly well should be). It is apparently an image of somewhere in Glasgow in 1868 - and couldn’t you just tell! Doesn’t it just draw you back into those bygone times…? Actually, come to think on it, I can remember one or two places in Kilmarnock that looked just like that not too long ago. Well within the last two decades or so. Some might say there are bits of Glasgow that still look like that. Suddenly I feel the craving to start writing some steampunk or other similar genre…
Here in Kuala Lumpur you don’t get old places like that because back in 1868 it was mostly jungle. Kuala LumpurĀ would have looked something like this lower picture - of course that’s all jungle - but that’s the point I’m too lazy to look for a real picture of KL from back in those days. Indeed I’m not even sure if there would be such a picture. There was really a settlement in KL, since it dates as far back as the 1850s, but getting a photo of that might be difficult. Here’s some jungle - use your imagination - what would a tin mining town look like way back when?
